Soil formation.

Soil is not just a layer of dirt and mud. It is actually  filled with life.  there are a variety of insect, reptiles and many other animals right under our feet. soil  also provide the vital nutrients required for plants to grow and thrive. Thus, living organism depends directly or indirectly on soil. 

Soil support plant to growth in two ways:

1. By holding the roots firmly

2. By Supplying water and nutrients


Soil formation

soil formation is a slow, stepwise process and it takes thousand of years to form a layer of soil just few cm thick. It is result of continuous breaking down of rocks by the process of weathering. 


What is weathering?

weathering is the disintegration of rocks on the earth surface caused by exposure to natural forces  wind,water,frost,root of plants etc.


Soil profile.

Due to physical, chemical, that take place during soil formation well developed layer of soil are formed from one below the other., Distinict layer of can be seen difference in colour and size of the particles. there are referred as horizon.
